Coding & Marking For Personal Care

Cosmetics and toiletries often have specialist marking and coding specifications. Linx has been providing high-quality printing and coding solutions to these requirements since 1987, and fully understands the requirements for manufacturers in the personal care industry. Our range of solutions includes continuous inkjet (CIJ) printers and laser coders, large character printers, thermal inkjet printers, and inks and accessories.

Manufacturers in the personal care industry often produce a wide range of products in an equally wide range of packaging formats. This diversity of packaging is influenced by factors such as:

  • Size polarisation from small travel size or tester pots through to larger, economical packs
  • Niche branding for standout in an increasingly crowded market
  • Ageing populations needing adapted packaging such as easy-grip containers (Read more in our White Paper above)

With so many different pack formats and material types, trust Linx to help you identify the right coding solution for you: meet your customers’ needs, meet legislation and reduce your overall production costs.

Legislation requirements

All personal care packaging companies are subject to legislation. For example, the EU Cosmetic Regulation 1223/2009 requires that all cosmetic and toiletry products be labelled or marked in some way to include specific information. Products must also be labelled with the full ingredient list.

Some of this information can be pre-printed on adhesive labels — but not all of it. Manufacturers still need the ability to print variable information on packaging during the manufacturing process. This information includes lot codes and batch numbers that provide traceability. Linx CIJ and laser coders make this possible.

Main applications

Linx services a full range of customers in the cosmetics and toiletries industry, each with unique coding and marking needs. Our personal care coding and marking solutions provide the kind of reliable service you need, whether you are coding on the plastic bottles, jars, cosmetic cases, or pumps and sprays.

Linx coders are flexible enough to meet your requirements today and in the future, with some models offering up to 5 lines of code. With extended service periods and minimal maintenance, total cost of ownership is reduced over the lifetime of your equipment. Our equipment can be used with a variety of materials, including:

  • Coated and uncoated metal
  • Flexible packaging
  • Plastics (HDPE, LDPE, PET, and many more)
  • Cartons and cardboard
  • Glass

Flexible coding

We offer a light, portable CIJ printer - the Linx 10 - which fits in easily into your line, allowing you to quickly configure new packing lines as and when required to meet customer needs.  The Linx 8900 CIJ printer includes both primary and secondary packaging capabilities, making it extremely flexible.

Code quality and full traceability

Every Linx solution offers consistently high quality printing for readable codes, increased uptime and maximum flexibility. For example, Linx Black PE ink 1130 provides reliable coding on a variety of plastics, including HDPE. Likewise, Linx laser coders print high-quality, permanent codes onto a variety of materials. Linx even offers Fibre laser coders that can mark bare metal products in both static and moving coding applications.

Initial purchase price is only one factor when choosing the appropriate coding solution. Overall value for money is equally important. Investing in quality, future-proof equipment allows you to spend more time coding and less time servicing your printers — increasing overall equipment effectiveness will help you bring more stability and efficiency to the packing process.

Our industry-leading sealed printheads deliver consistent, reliable coding with the lowest cleaning rate for CIJ printers in the industry. Our laser coders use less energy than competing models in their class, extending laser tube life up to more than 100,000 hours (Fibre laser models) to further reduce running time.

Linx coders are available in a range of IP ratings for minimum downtime in both wet and dusty environments. Furthermore, self-service modules on the Linx 8900 and Linx 10 save time and money on servicing.
