Thermal Inkjet (TIJ)

Thermal Inkjet (TIJ) printers use ink cartridge-based systems to apply traceability information onto packaging and products such as text, logos, 2D codes and barcodes.

TIJ printers can help reduce production costs by printing directly onto packaging and cases, thereby removing the need for labels. Some thermal ink jet printers are also developed with Advanced Funai® technology cartridges which have dual firing chambers, further reducing errors, maximising uptime and reducing wastage.

How does Thermal Inkjet work?

Thermal inkjet printers use a drop ejection process that fires very small droplets of ink, resulting in a high printing resolution. The system works by applying a voltage and heating the ink rapidly and ejecting the ink from the nozzle because of expansion.

What materials can TIJ printers print onto?

Thermal inkjet printers are particularly well-suited for printing variable information onto packaging such as coated card, film, plastics and cardboard boxes for food, drink, household and pharmaceutical products. Thermal inkjet printers can print to a high-resolution quality and are versatile for use on a wide variety of surfaces and materials. Thermal inkjet printers are suitable for coding onto flat surfaces.

Easy to set-up and adjust, their reliability and predictable cost of ownership endear them to production lines in a range of industries.

What type of information can Thermal Inkjet printers print?

Thermal Inkjet printers are ideal for printing text, batch codes and expiry dates. The high resolution produces excellent quality logos and graphics, including machine readable DataMatrix and barcodes. Typically, thermal inkjet printers can print at speeds of up to 90 m/min, depending upon the specification of the printer and type of code printed. Where faster line speeds need to be met, an alternative choice could be a Continuous Ink Jet Printer or Laser Coder.

Key benefits of Thermal Inkjet coders
