What is inkjet marking?

Inkjet marking is the process of printing variable information directly onto products, components or packaging using an industrial inkjet printer. In production environments, this usually includes information such as best-before dates, use-by dates, batch numbers, lot codes, serial numbers, barcodes, QR codes, Data Matrix codes and traceability data.

For fast-moving production lines, continuous inkjet marking, often called CIJ, is a popular choice because it prints without touching the product. That makes it suitable for curved, uneven, delicate or moving surfaces such as bottles, cans, pouches, cartons, cables and metal parts.
